Dr. Jones and Dr. Garthwaite attended the last meeting of the Pain Clinic Support Group. Henry Rowlands also came to report to the Committee on his recent activities. Dr. Jones asked if the committee would be prepared to purchase a specialised piece of equipment to help in the treatment of chronic pain. This hand held device enables a non-invasive treatment of localized areas of pain, acting directly on the nerves. The Committee approved the purchase but wished to put it to members' for their consideration. Dr. Jones said the cost for each device was £800.00 but when two or more are ordered at the same time the prices reduces to £700.00 each. Members' unanimously approved the purchase but suggested buying two, one to be kept at Bridlington. The guest speaker for the evening was Stella Larkin, owner of 'The Aroma Room' in Scarborough. She spoke enthusiastically about the properties of special mixes of essential oils for the treatment of chronic pain. Aromatherapy has been known since ancient times. Stella supported her talk with numerous hand outs to take home. She offered members of the Group a 20% discount on goods and services. One of our founder members, Christine Mortimer, met up with a long lost friend at a recent Group meeting. Jean Amies had not seen Christine for 52 years, when thet both shared the same riding stable. We were much saddened to learn of the death of our oldest member, Gladys Wilson, just before Christmas. Gladys was 94 and possessed of a marvellous personality, so warm and friendly. We will all miss Galdys very much. |
